Leading property developer Countryside Properties PLC, advised by FPDSavills, has completed the sale of its second 18-hole golf course at Wychwood Park in Cheshire. The sale price was not disclosed but when the course was first brought to market in November 2003 the guide price was £1.25 million.
The buyer’s identity is not known but is thought to be a ‘lifestyle‘ purchaser rather than an existing golf course operator. The new owner will be responsible for building both a new clubhouse and all the greenkeeping facilities.
The site, formerly known as Weston Hall, was granted planning permission in the early ‘nineties for the construction of two 18-hole golf courses, hotel complex and 500 houses. Martin Hawtree of Hawtree Limited was commissioned to amend the previous scheme design and develop the concept with RPS Consultants (landscape planners) into a top quality facility. The successful golf course constructor, John Greasley Ltd, has worked many times with Hawtree and understands the architect’s distinctive style.
The new course surrounds Countryside’s final residential phase known as Wychwood Village. When complete Wychwood Village will provide a further 315 new homes overlooking a newly created 34 acre country park.
Gary Witham of FPDSavills commented, “We have worked closely with Countryside Properties and tailored our marketing approach to suit their particular needs. This will allow the residents and other golfers the chance to enjoy a good quality club golf course as well as the existing Wychwood Park Golf Course which is considered to be one of the toughest on the PGA circuit.”
Countryside Properties technical director John Coates said, “We are delighted to have completed the sale of our second golf course here at Wychwood Park. The Wychwood Village Golf Course is exceptional and has been built to the same standard and specification as the Wychwood Park Golf Course.
“Wychwood Village is an outstanding location and we have made full use of the natural typography of the land to design a course of great interest and equal challenge to our first PGA European Tour Standard course.”
Wychwood Park in Cheshire is set within 714 acres of parkland. As well as boasting two 18-hole golf courses Wychwood Park already has a thriving business community in the form of the Wychwood Park Golf Club, Hotel, Training and Conference Centre and will ultimately provide 700 new homes, with views across the parkland and landscaped fairways.
