Leisure property specialist Humberts Leisure incorporating Fleury Manico confirms the sale of Chesterton Golf Club near Bicester, to Investfront Ltd for a figure in excess of the guide price which was set at £1.25 million.
To be known as Bicester Golf & Country Club, the property is a well located 18 hole proprietary golf club with a substantial clubhouse and banqueting facilities situated in the M40 corridor approximately mid way between London and Birmingham. The well established business had been under the control of the previous owners since 1983 and offers great potential for growth, including planning consent for 51 letting bedrooms and leisure club facilities.
Ben Allen, who handled the sale from Humberts Leisure’s office in Winchester, which is dedicated purely to the golf and hotel sectors, commented “Our targeted marketing exercise created an exceptional amount of interest in the club. The sale process took little more than three months from launch to completion, clearly demonstrating the current strength of demand for well located proprietary golf clubs.”
‘We are delighted with the acquisition of Chesterton Golf Club,” said Graham Payne of Investfront. “We look forward to expanding the club’s facilities over the coming years and improving the course for the benefit of all.”
Following Humbert Leisure’s confidential marketing exercise contracts have been exchanged for the sale of The Wiltshire Golf Club, Wootton Basset to Eddy Shah’s Messenger Leisure Group. The Wiltshire is a successful, well presented, Peter Alliss and Clive Clark designed 18 hole golf course, with 6,850 sq. ft. clubhouse, located in the M4 corridor. Planning consent exists for further development and it is understood that Messenger Leisure intends to construct hotel accommodation and a health & fitness club on site, similar to the facilities at Messenger’s The Suffolk Golf & Country Club at Bury St Edmunds.
Guy Robson has acquired Seckford Golf Club, Ipswich. Seckford Golf Club is an 18 hole course laid out around Seckford Hall Hotel. The club, which is aimed at the pay and play golfer/new golfer, was offered for sale on the open market with a guide price in the region of £750,000. There was considerable interest, especially from local purchasers.
In addition to these sales, Humberts Leisure has recently brought Risebridge Golf Centre to the market on behalf of The London Borough of Havering. A 25 year lease is offered over this well located 27 hole pay and play golf course in return for which an annual rent and capital investment in the course and clubhouse is required.
