HLL Humberts Leisure, the golf and leisure property specialists, has reported a flying start to the New Year with The Shropshire Golf Club sold and two further clubs under offer.
The sale of The Shropshire Golf Club to Burhill Estates Company Limited was completed on 8th January 2003 following a ‘discreet’ marketing campaign. The Shropshire comprises 27 holes of golf designed by Martin Hawtree, a 30 bay floodlit golf range, 12 hole short course, golf shop and substantial clubhouse complex. The club, which is located on the edge of Telford, is a fine venue for golf and the function/society trade. No details of the sale price are being released.
Jack Barker’s Golf Company has been appointed as the preferred bidder for Delaprà© Golf Complex, Northampton, which HLL Humberts Leisure has marketed on behalf of Northampton Borough Council. A 40 year lease is to be granted to the company in return for capital investment in the golf course and clubhouse, and a substantial annual rent. Delaprà© Golf Complex will be an excellent fit within the Jack Barker golf course portfolio, which primarily comprises pay and play facilities in the M1 corridor. The Company’s closest existing facility is Wavendon Golf Centre at Milton Keynes.
Horne Park Golf Club, Surrey is also under offer following a short public marketing campaign undertaken by HLL Humberts Leisure. Horne Park, a 9 hole golf course with clubhouse and golf driving range, created huge interest in the market, reaffirming the strength of demand for proprietary golf facilities in the Home Counties.
Ben Allen, head of HLL Humberts Leisure’s golf agency team, commented, ‘It is very encouraging that the golf market remains buoyant when other sectors of the economy are flattening out. We will be announcing further disposals shortly and look forward to 2003 with great enthusiasm’.
