The new owners of Mearns Castle Golf Academy are promising to bring in some real investment to improve the nine hole course and driving range at Waterfoot, near Glasgow
While the consortium of local entrepreneurs who’ve bought the club have ambitious long term plans, customers will be able to see real improvements to the facilities over the next few months.
“The current nursery is being vacated and we are hopeful that we can again attract some sort of retail facility as that has been a big loss according to the feedback I get from customers. We are currently in negotiations with a few potential partners,” said Academy manager, Russell Gray.
More immediate improvements include new balls and mats for the driving range and heaters for the bays, work will also begin very shortly on drainage improvements to the course. The Huxley putting green at the front of the Academy is also being refurbished.
“Our new owners are keen to keep it business as usual but with improvements to the course, the clubhouse and driving range facilities that will improve the whole experience of visiting MearnsCastle,” said Russell.
“We want to build a reputation as the place to come for a complete golfing experience, the best facility of its kind in the west of Scotland, but we need our customers help to spread the word.
“This is great local facility for the communities around the south side of the city and we are committed to maximising its potential and look forward to working with all our loyal customers to achieve this.”
The Academy which opened in 2004 currently has a membership of around 450, as well as an established and dedicated driving range clientele.
“The new owners have agreed to honour any outstanding credit that driving range customers might have on their loyalty card for the next three months, so if you haven’t seen us for a while it a great time to get reintroduced,” added Russell
