Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts has acquired the Greywalls Hotel in Scotland and a pair of hotels in North Carolina amid a period of expansion for the group.

In April, the golf-led collection launched the Portrush Adelphi in Northern Ireland to strengthen its portfolio of hotels, which includes Rusacks St Andrews, Slieve Donard, Marine Troon, Marine North Berwick and Dornoch Station.

The group, which is owned by Nashville-based AJ Capital Partners, has now acquired the Edwardian Greywalls hotel in Gullane, which borders Muirfield.

Privately owned by the Weaver family since 1926, the property, which dates back to 1901, will undergo an extensive refurbishment under its new ownership, reimagining the interiors, food and beverage operation, and the overall guest experience. The hotel is currently home to a Chez Roux restaurant.

Through a relationship with The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, guests at Greywalls have traditionally received access to play Muirfield, a 16-time host of The Open Championship.

NORTH AMERICA EXPANSION

As part of the same deal with the Weaver family, Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts has also entered the US market for the first time with the acquisition of Mid Pines Inn and Pine Needles Lodge in North Carolina, which sit beside the Donald Ross-designed championship courses.

The hotels will also undergo comprehensive restorations led by AJ Capital’s design team, featuring fully renovated guestrooms, new dining concepts, and refreshed public spaces.

As part of the expansion, Marine & Lawn will be partnering with Mid Pines and Pine Needles golf courses to offer hotel guests priority access and curated golf packages.

Ben Weprin, founder of Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts and chief executive and founder of AJ Capital Partners, said: “These acquisitions represent a pivotal milestone for Marine & Lawn. Since launching the brand in 2019, our ambition has always been to honor golf’s most legendary locales with world-class hospitality. The addition of these iconic properties — each with deep roots in golf’s history — allows us to bring that vision to life on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Ryan Lynn, partner at Knight Frank, who advised on the sale of Greywalls, said: “This off-market sale highlights the enduring appeal and strategic value of iconic hospitality assets. Greywalls Hotel, with its exceptional reputation and unrivalled location, represents a rare acquisition for Marine & Lawn. We continue to see strong appetite for landmark hotels, particularly those anchored by history, character, and proximity to world-class venues.”
