Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort, a five-star venue located in Renfrewshire in Scotland, has been placed into administration after getting into financial difficulties.
The Bishopton-based resort, which was converted from a hospital and opened as a hotel in 2004, employs 118 staff. In addition to the main hall, which is a listed building, facilities on site include a gym, an 18-hole golf course and a full-sized football pitch, which, up until seven years ago, was used by the Scottish national football team for training.
A statement released by Mar Estates Ltd stated: “On 22 August, Andrew Dolliver, Kris Aspin and Luke Charleton of EY-Parthenon’s turnaround and restructuring strategy team were appointed as joint administrators of Mar Estates Limited, trading as Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort.
“The resort continues to trade on a business-as-usual basis. Existing bookings and gift vouchers remain valid. Any customer enquiries should be directed to info@marhall.com.
“The resort will be marketed for sale, with the Joint Administrators anticipating significant interest for this high-profile asset. Experienced hotel operators Michels & Taylor have been instructed to support the Joint Administrators in managing the resort, pending a sale.”
Mar Hall’s par-70 Earl of Mar Championship Course was designed by Dave Thomas and first opened in 2010. Peak season green fees from May to September are £60 a round.
