On behalf of a private vendor, Savills has sold South Weald Golf Course at Brentwood, Essex to a local private investor. The property was offered with vacant possession at a guide price of £1.75 million.

The 18-hole, par 71 golf course occupies a 110 acre (45 hectare) mature, parkland setting three miles north west of Brentwood with an attractive clubhouse converted from an original two storey barn.

Ian Simpson, director of leisure at Savills Oxford, comments: “The golf course is attractive and well established with an affluent catchment and we are extremely pleased to have completed the sale on behalf of our clients, who wished to retire, and secure the ongoing operation.

“Since Spring 2013 the course has operated on a pay and play basis but the recent purchaser plans to reinstate traditional golf club membership and will continue to offer green fees to non-members.”

It is understood that the new owner plans to re launch the course as Brentwood Golf Club and will be investing heavily to re-establish the course and club to its former glory
