The Bells Hotel and Forest of Dean Golf Club, in Coleford, Gloucestershire has been put on the market by businessman Harry Kear as he looks to move into semi-retirement. Mr. Kear says he has already had considerable interest in the business.
He said: “We’ve probably got around half-a-dozen different individuals interested at the moment and I’m showing more people around this week.”
Mr. Kear bought Bells five years ago and according to estate agents Christie and Co www.christie.com the business turned over more than £1.6million for the financial year ending in March 2009. The forecast for the current financial year is £1.8million.
Harry Kear says that although the hotel is still making money he felt it was the right time to sell. He said: “I’m not selling because the business is suffering it is purely for personal reasons. The hotel is in good shape and we already have more than 20 coach parties booked for this year. I’m 63 and I’ve just decided that now is the right time to get rid of a few of my companies and move towards semi-retirement.”
Since he bought the hotel and golf course, Mr. Kear five years ago and during that time he has carried out extensive refurbishments, including installing indoor bowling facilities.
Bells Hotel and the Forest of Dean Golf & Bowls Club make up the largest leisure complex in the Forest of Dean.
