Farrington Golf Centre finds local buyer

The golf course, near Bristol, was placed on the open market early in the New Year and generated a very significant level of interest from golf operators and private parties

On behalf of the administrative receivers, KPMG of Bristol, FPDSavills were instructed in December 1999 to dispose of the 27 hole facility ten miles south of Bristol. The golf centre includes a six-bedroom farmhouse, sixteen bay floodlit driving range, par 72 18 hole golf course and 9 hole executive course. Offers were invited for the freehold property in the region of £1.65 million.

The new owner, Paul Harwood of Chew Magna, Somerset, is to retire from full time investment management in London and will spend the first few months restructuring the business. He intends to build upon and improve the centre’s excellent golf and leisure facilities.

Jeremy Rollason of FPDSavills Leisure commented, “We were extremely encouraged by the extraordinary level of interest shown in Farrington Golf Centre. We were approached by Paul Harwood at an early stage and, despite other strong interest, he was able to perform within the required time scales. We understand that he plans to enhance the leisure facilities at Farrington and this will undoubtedly increase the appeal of the golf centre.”
