Savills Golf team have announced the sale of Dudsbury Golf Club, Bournemouth to local entrepreneurs David and Beate Braban.
Dudsbury is a high quality 18 hole proprietary members club which has hosted the West Region PGA Order of Merit 1995 – 2004, the PGA EUROPRO Tournament 2001 -2002 and the EGU McGregor Trophy. Having acquired the club some years ago the Legg family asked the Savills golf team to advise on maximising value whilst ensuring the business was not affected by the sale process.
Gary Witham of Savills commented, “We were able to develop a strategy in combination with our specialist planning team at Wimborne to obtain planning consent for residential development on part, relocate the greenkeepers maintenance compound to provide a modern facility and ensure a swift confidential sale of the business without disruption. Whilst the market generally is quiet there are still a number of well funded purchasers for good quality courses.”
The Brabans intend taking the Club forward by refurbishing the clubhouse to include a high class restaurant and piano bar with live music five nights a week and on Sunday lunchtimes. The restaurant and piano bar will be open to the general public.
A further restaurant situated downstairs in the clubhouse will serve breakfast on a daily basis and a carvery.
Subject to planning permission, Mr Braban is hoping to build a 40 bed luxury hotel with spa and fitness facilities.
The golf course is already one of the best in the area and Mr Braban also intends to increase the number of golf buggies available and to install a cart path so that golfers can use buggies in the winter when trolleys are not allowed.
The Brabans want to make The Dudsbury Golf Club and Restaurant the best in the area and, with help from the local planning department, a high-class hotel will ensure this.
