Wentworth Club has elevated the practices facilities available for its membership with the opening of a brand new golf academy.

Located next to the Surrey club’s par-3 course, the state-of-the-art facility was officially opened to Wentworth members in April following a year-long build.

The new facility is staffed by a dedicated team of PGA Professionals, and features Tour-level technology and meticulously designed practice areas to deliver an unparalleled learning and playing environment.

The low level academy building is designed to blend into the landscape

The main academy building features four indoor swing studios that play out to a 300-yard grass range with five target greens. The studios are equipped with the latest technology, including Trackman 4, TPS, the Swing Catalyst Dual Motion Plate, and Gears 3D Studio, making it suitable for elite-level coaching, club fitting and practice.

TaylorMade, Callaway, Srixon and Titleist have all partnered with the club to provide tour-level fitting facilities for their latest equipment ranges, while the studios are regularly visited by tour staff players for testing and fittings.

There is also a separate putting studio featuring a Quintic Putt Analysis suite, Zen Greenstage adjustable platform, overhead putt tracking, and precision launch monitors. The technology allows golfers to simulate any putt imaginable, from simple straight rolls to double-breaking challenges. Members also benefit from access to premium putter brands, ensuring equipment is perfectly matched to their stroke.

The 300-yard Academy Range offers both grass and artificial teeing areas and features Trackman Range, enabling golfers to access instant swing and ball-flight data through a supporting smartphone app.

The two-tiered practice putting green has been designed to replicate the speeds on Wentworth’s championship courses

A short game area boasts six target greens, two pitching greens, three bunkers, and five artificial turf stations, and is designed to replicate on-course conditions to help players master every shot around the green. Bunker design allows players to test and refine spin control, while multiple green complexes mimic real-world scenarios.

A USGA-spec two-tier bent grass practice putting green, maintained at the same speed as Wentworth’s championship courses, provides a realistic platform for honing putts of all lengths.

Designed as both a learning tool and a testing ground, the Academy also features a par-3 course combines breathtaking natural surroundings with a challenging yet approachable layout for all abilities. Perfect for practice rounds, coaching sessions, or sharpening short-game strategy, it offers a stepping stone between practice areas and Wentworth’s Championship courses.

As part of the Wentworth Golf Academy, the club is opening a Junior Academy in the coming months — the first programme of its kind in the UK. Developed within a professional sporting framework that mirrors the pathways of elite athletes worldwide, the Junior Academy will represent a significant step in nurturing the next generation of golfing talent at Wentworth.

Sustainability played a central role in the design and construction of the Academy, with the building and the surrounding area not only conceived as a centre for performance, but also as a model of ecological responsibility.

The main academy building, which also features a café offering light snacks and refreshments, incorporates renewable solar energy panels and a sedum roof to reduce its carbon footprint. Landscaping has achieved a 34% biodiversity net gain, surpassing the local authority’s target of 10%, while the planting of 87 new native trees and 300 woodland whips has replaced many of trees that had to be removed to make way for the driving range and short game area.

Other enhancements to the area, which is located on a Site of Nature Conservation Interest, include the restoration of overgrown pond to encourage natural wildlife and the expansion of woodland habitats to support biodiversity.

“The Wentworth Golf Academy is more than just a facility — it’s a commitment to the future of the game,” said Stuart Boyle, Club Manager at Wentworth. “We wanted to create a world-class destination that complements our historic courses, while offering members access to the most advanced training technology and coaching expertise available anywhere in the world.”

“From the very beginning, our goal was to ensure the Academy reflected both Wentworth’s commitment to excellence and its responsibility to the environment,” added Boyle, “We are proud to have created a space that not only enhances the golfing experience, but also contributes positively to our local ecosystem.”
