The UK Golf Course Owners Association (UKGCOA), the representative body for the commercially minded golf facilities in the UK, held their fifth Annual General Meeting at Frilford Heath Golf Club near Abingdon on 22nd March 2016.
Just under 30 members and partners were in attendance on the day to see UKGCOA member Tony Healy of Pin High Golf Group elected to the Board position vacated by Elliot Hamilton of Hunley Golf Hotel who decided not to seek re-election after serving on the UKGCOA board for more than four years.
Commenting on his election to the Board, Tony said: “I am absolutely delighted to be elected to the board of the UK Golf Course Association and look forward to contributing wherever possible. I believe it is also a fantastic platform to drive forward initiatives to assist clubs across the UK supported by the best the industry has to offer.”
Colin Mayes, the Chief Executive of Burhill Group, was also re-elected onto the Board for another term and will be extending his time as the Association’s Chairman, now ably assisted by the newly appointed Vice-Chairman Richard Haygarth, MD of Maple Leaf Golf which owns and operates 3 golf facilities.
Following the AGM, Doug Poole from National Golf Month provided an update of this year’s plans for National Golf Month, a British golf industry initiative with a target of encouraging 100,000 of the non-golfing public to try golf during May. Attendees were then treated to 18 holes on Frilford Heath’s oldest and most prestigious Red course, a 2016 Open qualifying venue.
