British Airways has challenged its sponsored golfer Justin Rose to calculate how many shots it takes to complete a Sport Relief mile, and invites the public to see if they can do better. Rose, who took up the challenge during training in Orlando, completed the task in six shots.
Currently ranked seventh in the world, Justin Rose, said: “It was fun taking British Airways up on their challenge, and now I’m inviting the public to play their part too. I reckon that an average player can complete a mile (1,760 yards) by playing four or five holes on their local course.
“The great thing about Sport Relief is that you don’t have to be a professional or need any experience to take part. So if you’re a beginner, what a great way to ease yourself in to the sport by completing a mile.”
Through its ‘Flying Start’ partnership with Comic Relief, British Airways has raised over £6.5 million for the charity. This year, the first ever Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games take place from Friday 21 March to Sunday 22 March, 2014. The public can get involved and raise money through running, swimming or cycling events at over a thousand venues, including Queen Elizabeth Park where British Airways staff will be cheering on participants.
Justin flew on to the golfing scene as a 17-year-old amateur during the1988 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, and has since gone on to win five times on the PGA Tour including the 2012 WGC – Cadillac Championship. In 2013, he won the US Open – the first English player to do so in 43 years.
British Airways has supported Justin since April 2013, helping him to compete and train around the world. The airline offers golf breaks in some 80 golf resorts and 500 golf hotels around the world. Customers can also take golf clubs as part of their normal checked baggage allowance, further information at ba.com
