Rolling Hills Country Club in Los Angeles has appointed Wayne Sheffield as its new general manager and chief operating officer.

Sheffield, who has more than 30 years’ experience managing some of the finest golf clubs in the world, will start his new role at the Southern California venue in February.

Most recently, he has served as general manager of Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Florida for the past decade. The club has undergone a significant transformation during this period and is one of the most respected private clubs in the country.

Sheffield’s career also includes senior leadership positions at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club; eight years as chief executive at The Wisley in Surrey, a worldwide consulting role at IMG, British Ensign Golf, and Crown Golf, and six years as general manager at The Lambourne Club in the UK.

Rolling Hills Country Club chairman Adam Rioux commented: “Wayne’s extensive experience, thoughtful and empathetic leadership style, and deep familiarity and success in managing high-end membership and club experiences made him the clear choice to lead Rolling Hills into our next exciting chapter.

“A respected leader in the international private club industry, Wayne brings a forward-looking approach to club leadership, with demonstrated expertise in project and operational management, financial oversight, managing and developing focused teams, and developing a culture of hospitality and enhanced member experiences. He is an expert at building teams and is deeply committed to developing and supporting his team members, who bring the Rolling Hills’ values to life each day.
We are delighted to welcome Wayne and his family to California and are confident his leadership will strengthen our club’s continued pursuit of excellence.“

First opened in 1956, Rolling Hills Country Club unveiled a new-look course designed by David McLay Kidd in 2018

Writing on LinkedIn, Sheffield commented: “I am very proud of the team’s success during my ten years at Isleworth and deeply grateful to have had the privilege to grow both personally and professionally, taken over a real estate business, built amazing teams across three business units and worked on other Tavistock group projects. The experiences, education, support, and friendships I have gained will stay with me always.

“Looking ahead, I’m excited to be part of Rolling Hills Country Club in beautiful Palos Verdes. My family love the area – and the climate – and I have already really enjoyed my interactions with the board members, their amazing welcome, refreshing vision, lofty ambitions and setting up of new structures. I am looking forward to contributing towards the bright future of such a truly unique and beautiful club and new David McLay Kidd designed golf course. I am excited to work alongside and support the new hires and talented existing team there as we continue to build memorable experiences together for its members.”
