South Africa-based Peter Richardson is the latest overseas recruit for Golf Business International, which continues to increase its global reach.
Richardson’s experience is in development, property, management, and sales and marketing, though, as a qualified journalist, he began his career in golf in the UK public relations sector at the turn of the century.
His eponymous company, Pete Richardson Communications, was quick to establish itself in the golf PR market and, after nine years – in which he grew the company into the Azalea Group – he chose to relocate to head up the sales and marketing division of the soon-to-be-launched Legend Golf & Safari Resort, in Limpopo, South Africa.
Yorkshireman Richardson has been based in Limpopo ever since, but, using the skills and experience he gained in his multi-faceted career at Legend, he now offers a varied consultancy in the South African golf sector. Richardson was a co-founder of both the South African Golf Tourism Association and the world’s first specialist rhino orphanage: The Rhino Orphanage.
He said: “The continued expansion of Golf Business International has not gone unnoticed on the African continent and I felt now was the right time to join the fold. I’ve worked with many of the members previously, while I know others from my time in PR.
“I believe the ethos of Golf Business International is a solid, forward-thinking concept which will benefit not only its members, but also the golf industry as a whole.”
Welcoming Richardson to Golf Business International, chairman Howard Swan said: “I have known Pete for many years and am delighted he has decided to join us as just our third overseas member – but our second new one in a matter of weeks. Golf Business International is starting to gain traction in overseas markets and two new overseas members in such a short time is testament to that.
“I see that he will be working closely with (fellow member) Kwakye Donkor and others in southern Africa to develop an African chapter of the group which is able to provide comprehensive golf business consulting services throughout the continent.”
Golf Business International, formed originally as the Golf Consultants Association in 1999, is unique in the UK in its ability to make available a team of highly-respected and experienced golf industry professionals to deal with any aspect of the business of golf through from conception to end.
