Respected businessman PY Gerbeau has been appointed as non-executive chairman to the five-star La Manga Club resort in Spain.
Known for his entrepreneurial restructuring of many large corporations and successful involvement with high profile projects such as Disneyland Paris and The Millennium Dome, Gerbeau joins with immediate effect and will work with the La Manga Club management team to oversee future strategy and implementation of their vision.
Gerbeau and his team at Xscape created and developed the X-Leisure company, which became the most profitable entertainment firm in Britain. Thanks to its enormous success, the company group Xscape was acquired by the largest real estate company in the UK, Land Securities, earlier this year.
The La Manga Club board of directors said: “We are delighted that PY Gerbeau has accepted this role. His experience within the leisure sector and his engaging profile will be invaluable and will assist us in positioning La Manga Club as one of the top European sports and destination resorts.”
Gerbeau said: “I have a property in La Manga Club and I love the place, so it is an honour to have been invited to chair this legendary resort, and to help frame the vision and strategy to return it to its rightful place among Europe’s elite leisure resorts.”
Having celebrated its 40th birthday last year, La Manga Club stands as a bastion of European golf, sports and lifestyle resorts and the five-star venue is widely recognised as Spain’s flagship venue.
Among its recent accolades, La Manga Club was named the best conference hotel in Spain at The Annual MICE Report Awards 2012 and has been voted the unanimous winner of the ‘Best Golf Resort in Spain’ by readers of the UK’s ‘Today’s Golfer’ magazine for the last two years, while it is also the overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association until 2016.
La Manga Club boasts unrivalled facilities as a sports and leisure destination including three 18-hole championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre. It also offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses, more than 20 bars and restaurants and is great fun for children.
