Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter will receive the PGA Recognition Award for his outstanding contribution to the game at this year’s PGA annual fundraising lunch.

Poulter, who qualified as a PGA Professional back in the 1990s before scaling the heights of the game as a player, will be the guest of honour at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Friday, 16th December.

The 40 year old follows in the footsteps of some of golf’s greatest names to have been recipients of the award including Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie and current Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke.

PGA chief executive Sandy Jones commented: “We are absolutely thrilled that Ian will be the guest of honour at the PGA lunch and receive this award. Ian’s is a truly inspirational story that shows that if you combine talent and determination, you can achieve your dreams.

“He has excelled on the world stage and nowhere more so than through his Ryder Cup feats which are on a par with anything we have seen in the history of the matches. No-one will ever forget his performance on Saturday afternoon in the 2012 Ryder Cup which played such a huge part in the Miracle at Medinah.”

While Poulter takes centre stage in the capital, two other PGA lunches are also taking place in December.

Fellow Ryder Cupper, and 2014 stalwart Jamie Donaldson is the special guest at The Midland Hotel in Manchester on Friday, 2nd December while Nicolas Colsaerts takes the spotlight at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel on Wednesday, 14th December.

The annual lunches are among the most popular and important dates on the PGA calendar with money raised going towards the PGA Benevolent Fund which each year helps PGA Members through difficult times – often the result of serious illness and life-changing injuries.
