At the PGA South Region annual dinner held at Wentworth G.C. Gary Bason was awarded the honour of PGA South Region Coach of the year 2011.
Gary turned professional in January 1994 and competed on the Mastercard and Challenge Tours during the late 1990’s.
He has been based at Manston Golf Centre since it opened in 1995 where he has recently helped to promote the Positive Impact Golf philosophy. His clients include all levels of golfer, from complete beginner to European Tour Professionals. In 2008 Gary joined the Kent Golf Partnership as County Golf Development Officer. English Golf participation targets have consistently been smashed, with this year nearly 900 young golfers receiving golf coaching through ‘Golf Roots’ centres in Kent.
Through his work at Golf Live, setting up Adult Participation Centres and work to establish an Open Legacy Project, nearly 4,000 adults have been introduced to golf between the months of April and October 2011.
Gary was instrumental in setting up this year’s Swing Zone at The Open Championship, recruiting and training a team of 20 young ambassadors, working with PGA Professionals at The Open Championship and other Kent based coaching sessions. This initiative has also won the PGA’s of Europe Golf Development Award for 2011.
From December 1st 2011 Gary will be based at The Oast Golf Centre, Tonge, near Sittingbourne. He will be introducing his new GBGolfCoaching brand to the centre and will deliver lessons in the new indoor swing analysis studio as well as on the driving range.
Oast Golf Centre has a 9 hole Par 3 Approach Course, Chipping and Putting area and a 17 bay floodlit Driving Range, featuring Power Tees.
