New President for European Architects

10.30pm 30th April 2009 - People

David Krause has succeeded Ken Moodie as President of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA).

The annual meeting of EIGCA took place earlier this month in Noordwijk, Netherlands, where the annual Presidents Cup was played for over the stunning and unforgettable courses at Kennemer GC and Noordwijkse GC.

Canadian born Krause came to Europe in 1986 and for five years worked for Robert Trent Jones Sr. He set up his own golf course design practice in Germany in 1993. He has also occasionally collaborated with Portuguese architect Jorge Santana da Silva.

David has been a member of the EIGCA Council since the merger in 2000 and served as Hon. Treasurer for a number of years. He has been chairman of the PR Committee for the last two years, overseeing the introduction of the e-newsletter and the development of the new website which is due to come on line shortly.

The new Vice-President is Rainer Preissmann. Rainer was a founder member of the European Society of Golf Course Architects (ESGA) and joined its Board in 1994. He was one of the ESGA representatives in the merger talks with the British and French golf architects which led to the creation of EIGCA in 2000 and has been a member of the Council since that time.

Retiring President, Ken Moodie, said, “It has been a privilege to have led the EIGCA over the last 2 years. I have very much enjoyed my time as President and the opportunity to represent the Institute at various conferences and events throughout Europe. Supported by a productive and enthusiastic Council, and a very able Executive Officer, I believe that we have made great strides as a professional body.

“There is a growing consensus in the golf industry that we need to work together to develop the game of golf and promote the sport’s good environmental credentials, and we have formed close and productive links with a number of golf organisations to collaborate on research projects and educational initiatives. I am sure that my successor, David Krause, will guide the Institute well during his tenure as President.”

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to continue to work along with my Council, a group of dedicated and professional people along with our extremely capable Executive Officer Mrs. Julia Green,” said David Krause. “My goals are to prepare for our inaugural Harry Colt Award; to make a success of our World Conference in St. Andrews next year and to continue to raise the profile of the EIGCA and the profession of golf course architecture.”

The new EIGCA Council is David Krause, President; Rainer Preissmann, Vice President; Peter Fjallman, Hon Treasurer; and Mike Wood together with newly-elected members Jeff Howes; Tom Mackenzie; and Ronan Branigan.
