The Wisley is one of the world’s most successful true private member clubs and this reputation has been further strengthened by the recent recruitment of Wayne Sheffield as General Manager.
On board since May 2008, Sheffield is responsible for the delivery of the highest quality of service both on and off the golf course and to take charge of the forthcoming course refurbishment project.
“We are fortunate to attract a senior level executive with the golf operations experience Wayne brings to his new position,” stated chairman Steve Tipping. “His direction will prove invaluable as The Wisley continues to develop and improve its offering to members as one of the world’s top private golf facilities.”
Sheffield draws on a wealth of experience in managing golf operations with eight years at Crown Golf as general manager of its Lambourne and South Winchester Golf Courses as well as a group sales & marketing roles before joining Mill Ride Golf Club as director of golf operations.
In four years at Mill Ride, Sheffield oversaw both a significant financial turnaround and quality uplift in all areas and has most recently worked as director of operations at IMG, the global leader in sports, media and entertainment industry.
In this role at IMG, Wayne worked on some of the leading golf resort and development projects around the world, managing projects in Scotland, Greece, South Africa and Russia as well as involvement in its DLGA academies and signature design projects around the world.
“In light of The Wisley’s reputation and exciting development plans, I am eager to utilise the experience gained working on some fantastic projects with IMG at such a prestigious shareholder owned club,” states Sheffield. “I take pride in this opportunity to contribute to the further growth of The Wisley.”
The Wisley is situated on a 224 acre site in Surrey, comprising three loops of nine holes by renowned course architect, Robert Trent Jones Jnr and was immediately ranked within the UK’s top 20 by Golf World and attracting many of the world’s leading golfers amongst its discerning membership.
