10.00am 11th March 2022 - People

Torquay Golf Club heads into the 2022 season with a new management team in place.  The Club has engaged with Legacy Golf Advisors to provide them with ongoing advisory support that includes the recruitment of a new General Manager and Course Manager.

Andrew Blight joins the Club as General Manager from Chippenham GC and returns to his roots, having spent his formative years in Devon.  ‘I am extremely excited to be back in Devon and joining Torquay as their General Manager.  I have always enjoyed playing at Torquay, it is a fabulous Club with a strong membership.  The course is one of my favourites in Devon, and the views from the top of the course are truly spectacular.  I look forward to building on the successes of recent years and driving the Club forward as a mainstay of the local community. I also look forward to working with LGA and benefiting from their expertise and experience.  To have their support is invaluable personally, but also for the wider Club to be able to call on their experience is reassuring as we look to develop our future plans.’  Andrew commented on his new role.

Craig Gibson joins as Course Manager after 15 years at Essendon Country Club, where he had responsibility for 400 acres and a busy 36 hole facility.  ‘I am excited about the role at Torquay and building on the excellent foundations that are in place here.  It is such a great location, and I am looking forward to enjoying the delights of Devon with the family.  It is a great part of the country and to have the opportunity to take the course at Torquay to the next level is an exciting challenge.’

Stuart Gillett from LGA said, ’The Board at Torquay has been very proactive in their approach to taking the Club forward.  They have understood the need to get the right management structure in place and ensure that the right individuals are in the correct positions to do so.  The Club is in such a great location, and the recent changes to the F & B team have created a wonderful Club environment and an excellent food offering.  We are delighted to be able to support Torquay Golf Club as it moves forward into an exciting future.’

LGA will support both new managers with ongoing personal development and work with the Club to establish a Strategic Plan for the next five years.  Using member insights and focus groups to gain valuable feedback will allow the Club to make decisions on their future that are driven through the ongoing engagement of its membership.
