IMG strengthens European golf management

Wayne Sheffield is joining IMG’s golf course management team as Director of Operations.

IMG is a global leader in the golf industry, with a reputation built upon a 40 year history of representing the game’s top athletes. IMG now successfully manages and represents the daily operations of top golf courses in Asia, Australia and Europe with its European operation further strengthened by the recent recruitment of Wayne Sheffield as Director of Operations – Golf Course Management.

On board as of July 2007, Sheffield is responsible for the pre opening, development and operational quality control of premium golf operations across Europe.

“We are fortunate to attract a senior level executive with the golf operations experience Wayne brings to his new position,” stated IMG senior vice president Michael Pask. “His direction will prove invaluable as IMG continues to develop and manage a host of impressive worldwide golf facilities.”

Sheffield draws on a wealth of experience in managing golf operations. He enjoyed a lengthy tenure at Crown Golf as general manager of its Lambourne and South Winchester Golf Courses as well as southern regional management and group sales & marketing roles before joining Mill Ride Golf Club as director of golf operations. In four years at Mill Ride, Sheffield oversaw both a significant financial turnaround and quality uplift of all areas and was also responsible for overseeing the management of the owners Mid Sussex golf course and setting up of group purchasing arrangements.

“In light of IMG’s reputation and growing involvement in the management of top quality golf operations, I am eager to build on my operational experience with a company as proactive as IMG,” states Sheffield. “I take pride in this opportunity to contribute to the further growth of IMG’s international portfolio.”

With offices in 23 countries around the world, IMG is already market leader in the operation of leading Asian and Australian golf markets. Additionally, IMG has recently been awarded management contracts for Colin Montgomerie’s Rowallen Castle project in Scotland and, significantly, Tiger Woods first signature design project in Dubai.
