Greenkeeping career gets multi-media boost

1.50am 19th February 2003 - People

A new CD-ROM and DVD will introduce careers advisers and school leavers to the exciting opportunities in golf greenkeeping.

The resource has been developed by the Greenkeepers Training Committee (GTC) in association with the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Ireland (GCSAI).

It is available free of charge to careers advisers throughout the UK and Ireland and gives a step-by-step introduction to greenkeeping, with video footage and helpful diagrams.

Both the CD-ROM and DVD include a commentary from the voice of golf, Peter Alliss, and demonstrate that greenkeeping is moving with the times and developing an exciting and rewarding career ladder.

GTC Education Director David Golding said, “We want to give a true picture of greenkeeping in the 21st century, a picture of training career advancement and an outdoor and varied working life. The competition for school leavers is intense, but the three bodies that made this initiative possible firmly believe that more young people should consider golf greenkeeping for their futures.”

The CD-ROM and DVD are available by contacting the GTC on 01347 838640 or by e-mailing golf@the-gtc.co.uk
