OB Sports Golf Management announces the appointment of Grahame Taylor as Course Manager of Dumbarnie Golf Links. Taylor will oversee the grow-in and greenkeeping of the true links golf course, built on the sand dunes of the north shore of the Firth of Forth, in a secluded corner of the East Neuk of Fife.
“I’m truly humbled to have been selected by OB Sports to lead such an outstanding project from its infancy,” said Taylor. “My family considers this region of Scotland home, so this job has such an extra special meaning for me. I am honoured to accept the responsibility and challenge that comes with it.”
“We conducted an international search looking for the best possible candidate to lead our grow-in and maintenance efforts at Dumbarnie Golf Links, and we feel like Grahame is a perfect fit,” said OB Sports Senior Vice President of Agronomy and Construction, Luke Beardmore. “His hands-on experience at some of the finest true links golf courses will serve him very well as we seek to establish Dumbarnie Golf Links as one of the finest links courses in the world. We have a tremendous amount of confidence in Grahame, and his passion for this project is contagious.”
A native and current resident of Fife, Taylor has earned numerous certificates in greenkeeping from Elmwood College. He comes to Dumbarnie Golf Links from The Old Course at St. Andrews, where he served as supervisor for the past two years. Grahame is no stranger to the area and has also worked for the St. Andrews Links Trust at the New and Jubilee courses along with the Castle course. Grahame has a tremendous pedigree with 10 European Tour events played at golf courses on which he has worked. All of this has prepared Taylor for the test that lies ahead during the grow-in and establishment of Dumbarnie Golf Links.
Perhaps the most noteworthy event played at a golf course on which Taylor worked, was the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles. During his four years as Greenkeeper of the PGA Centenary Course, Taylor was involved in the reconstruction of numerous holes for the Ryder Cup, as well as managing the irrigation system. He also spent two years in Spain as an irrigation technician at Hacienda Riquelme, where he gained valuable experience with parkland style golf courses, as well as warm-season grasses.
Construction of Dumbarnie golf course began in May 2018, with the goal of getting as much seeding completed in 2018 as possible. The grand opening is tentatively scheduled for the Spring of 2020.
