Gavin Abson, Head PGA Golf Professional, The Carrick

Gavin Abson, Head PGA Golf Professional at The Carrick on Loch Lomond, continues to impress on a national stage after his burgeoning coaching career was recently recognised by bunkered magazine and Sport Scotland. Abson was named to the Elite Teaching Panel for bunkered, Scotland’s #1 golf magazine, for the second year in succession and will feature in instruction features throughout 2012.

After recently being promoted to his current role of Head PGA Golf Professional, Abson, who has been at The Carrick since 2010, was also recognised for his work at The Carrick Golf Academy by Sport Scotland. He will form a team of three select regional coaches that will work on the unique Coaching Talent Programme to develop young Scottish golfers in the West of Scotland.

“Gavin has been at the heart of The Carrick’s instruction team for a couple of years now and has built a reputation amongst our members, local players and his fellow professionals for being a diligent, informative and personable golf coach. He has great knowledge of the game having seen the game from several different angles, including time spent as a player, caddying on the European Tour and graduating with honours in his PGA degree,” commented Ross Whitfield, General Manager, The Carrick on Loch Lomond Golf Club. “Gavin is undoubtedly one of the most exciting young coaches in Scotland and we are delighted to have him on our team. I’m sure he’ll continue to do a stellar job of representing The Carrick moving forward.”

In his second season as part of the bunkered Elite Teaching Panel, Gavin forms part of a five strong team of coaches selected by the magazine to inform readers on the latest coaching and practice techniques to improve their game. At just 31 years of age, Abson is one of the youngest coaches to have been bestowed with the honour.

“I’m delighted to have been selected by bunkered and Sport Scotland, and am really excited by the opportunities that these positions offer for me and the resort,” commented Abson. “I’ve had a fantastic time at The Carrick as part of their instruction team, and being recognized by Sport Scotland is testament to the hard work and support of the team around me. The playing and practice facilities at the resort are fantastic and give all of the teaching staff a fantastic foundation to teach players of all abilities, all year round. I feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity with both bunkered and SportScotland, which wouldn’t have happened without the support of the rest of the team.”

Accompanying the championship golf course and academy at The Carrick is the elegant De Vere Cameron House Hotel, a five-star baronial mansion voted ‘Best Hotel in Scotland’ at the 2009 Golf Tourism Scotland Awards. With inspirational accommodation and a myriad of on-site activities from Quad Biking to Loch Cruises, leisure experiences at Cameron House are truly first-class. A host of exciting developments and events throughout the year in celebration of the resorts fifth anniversary have made The Carrick a must-visit destination in 2012.
