Few will remember the recent Open Championship better than young Dominic Hoskin, after he won a set of PGA Kids range golf clubs in a Golf Foundation competition at The Open.
Leading golf charity the Golf Foundation and PGA Collection teamed up to hold the quiz during Open Championship week, setting a series of difficult questions which proved hugely popular with visiting families. Dominic, aged seven, from Essex, answered all correctly and was crowned Quiz Champion.
The Golf Foundation was present at Royal St George’s thanks to the support of The R&A, which created the R&A Swingzone for the week. Here, the Foundation team worked alongside the Professional Golfers’ Association and on behalf of the England Golf Partnership to introduce golf to new participants. The Foundation showcased its ‘HSBC Golf Roots’ programme which encourages children from all backgrounds and circumstances to enjoy golf and learn positive life skills.
Dominic’s quiz answers included the correct years of four previous Open winners at Royal St George’s, the two other Kent venues to stage the Championship and, perhaps most difficult of all, the average score for all completed rounds at last year’s Open Championship (to one decimal place!).
Dominic won a custom-fit set of PGA Kids range golf clubs and bag for his efforts.
His father Paul said: “The clubs have been great for Dominic. Last week he scored 49 Stableford points (108 gross, 58 net!) and lowered his handicap by eight strokes to 42. He’s delighted with them and we’re all extremely grateful for such a great prize!”
The PGA Collection PGA Kids range, produced by Sigma Golf, is all about making the game accessible and enjoyable, using the latest technology to design clubs that provide the ideal blend of performance and forgiveness at an affordable price. Expert custom fitting is available across the range from your local PGA professional.
Richard Jewell, Managing Director of Sigma Golf, said: “We were delighted to team up with the Golf Foundation and it was great to receive this feedback that young Dominic is enjoying his prize. Our customers tell us that our blend of performance benefits and good value make PGA Collection products an exceptional proposition for the beginner and improving player.
“Young customers include both boys and girls – the girls’ range is going well – and the fact that PGA professionals sell the clubs is also vital, as they are best placed to offer advice and, of course, give lessons to new golfers.”
