Direct Golf UK Chairman John Andrew has been nominated by RBS for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award 2013.

The British PGA Professional set-up and established Direct Golf UK in 1991 and twenty-two years on it remains 100% privately owned by its founder.

Now Chairman, Andrew has taken the business from one store in Huddersfield to 21 stores across the UK, over 300 staff including 50 PGA Professionals, a 75,000 sq ft warehouse and the largest, most responsiveness, database of golfers to become the leading multi-channel golf retailer in Europe.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year award is considered the world’s most prestigious business award and is held in more than 140 cities and in more than 50 countries worldwide.

Recognising exceptional leaders, the programme starts locally by region and all regional winners’ progress to compete at the UK finals where a number will receive UK awards. The overall UK winner then joins the other overall country winners in Monte Carlo to vie for the title of World Entrepreneur of the Year.

“It’s a huge honour to be recognised and nominated for such a prestigious award” said the DGUK Chairman, who has already progressed to become a regional finalist for the award.

The nomination follows the exciting news that Direct Golf UK recently secured a £3.5 million funding package to take their business to the next level. After being with their previous bank for over 22 years, Direct Golf UK moved to RBS and with it secured funding to further develop its award-winning multi-channel business and expand its retail store portfolio.
