Bert Barenbrug passes away

The Royal Barenbrug Group, a world leader in grass technology, today regretfully announces the passing of Bert Barenbrug, third-generation owner of the Barenbrug Group, former Chairman of the Board of Directors, and former Supervisory Board member. Bert, aged 76 passed away on March 6, after a period of illness.

Bert Barenbrug was the grandson of Barenbrug founder Joseph Barenbrug. Bert joined the family business in 1967, setting up Barenbrug Germany in 1968 and later succeeding his father Joop Barenbrug as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Under his leadership, the Barenbrug Group became a leading international company in the breeding, production and marketing of grass seed. He established the presence in countries like the US, the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and China. After his retirement in 2002, Bert remained involved in the company as a non-executive member of the Supervisory Board, until his sons Bastiaan and Frank Barenbrug joined the Board of Directors in 2007.
