Battle Back Golf takes on Three Peaks

9.01am 21st June 2010 - People

On 25th July 2010, a group of like-minded individuals from the golf industry will attempt to scale the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours to raise money for the Help for Heroes initiative, Battle Back Golf.

The summits of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon will be the target of the Golf Industry Three Peaks Challenge Team which comprises Chris Lomas, Course Manager at The Berkshire, Toro’s Andrew Brown, Kevin Hart from Club Car, Daniel Hodson from the De Vere Group, golf course architect Jonathan Gaunt, John Weir from Cornerstone Golf and Colin Mayes, Tristan Hall, Jim Conlan, Andy Owen and Simon Thorpe from the Burhill Golf and Leisure Group.

Battle Back Golf was launched in October 2009 as a tri-service initiative to provide opportunities for seriously injured service personnel to experience the physical and confidence-boosting benefits of a range of sporting activities. The brainchild of Lieutenant Colonel Fred Hargreaves, it is proving a great success as it helps patients readapt to their previous activities or introduce them to new challenges.

Group spokesperson Chris Lomas explained why they wanted to get involved: “This is not just a fund raiser that we’ll take part in and walk away after handing a cheque over.

“We’re all committed to helping this initiative grow by using our knowledge of the golf industry and our contacts within it. It goes without saying that the more money we raise, the more the programme can help our wonderful servicemen and women rehabilitate through the game that we all, in some way, take for granted.

“We’re really up for the challenge and we hope that the golf industry will get behind us by so we can reach our target of £15,000 by making a donation at www.bmycharity.com/H4H3peakschallengebattlebackchrislomas
