BAGCC jubilee event to raise money for tsunami victims

9.30am 4th January 2005 - People

The British Association of Golf Course Constructors, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, will donate all funds raised at its Silver Jubilee charity auction, to be held during BTME at Harrogate later this month, to the appeal for aid to victims of last week’s disaster.
David White, BAGCC Secretary, said, “We have all seen the devastating effects of the earthquake and resultant tsunami in the Pacific and no doubt most people will have already made personal donations to the many aid appeals. However, the likelihood is that the immediate impetus of donating will last only a week or so. In our small way, BAGCC can help this and keep the momentum rolling by holding our little charity auction and donating all the funds raised via the British Red Cross.”
The auction will be incorporated within the BAGCC 25th anniversary celebrations, to be held on Wednesday 19th January at the Swallow St. George Hotel, Harrogate, right across the road from the annual BIGGA Turf Management and ClubHouse Exhibitions which will attract several thousand members of the golf industry.
“You can help in a number of ways,” says David White, “Donation of auction lots; donations of money – if you don‘t have an auction lot, bring some cash (well, a cheque actually, made payable to “The British Red Cross”). If you or your company are able to assist, thousands of people in the devastated area will be forever grateful.”
Golf Business News.com has learned that David himself is prepared to make a very special sacrifice in order to benefit the appeal. “My face has been fully bearded for over 35 years (I‘m 70 this year) and it’s now silver, or silver grey at least,” he says. “I‘ve no idea what I might find underneath it all, but I‘m going to auction it, and will shave it off that very evening, the funds raised also going to the British Red Cross appeal.”
