Alison Nicholas appointed head pro at Redditch GC

Former ladies tour professional and Solheim Cup captain Alison Nicholas has been appointed as the new head teaching professional at Redditch Golf Club in Worcestershire.

Nicholas, 58, is a PGA-qualified professional who competed as a tour player on both the Ladies European Tour and on the LPGA Tour in America for over 20 years. In that time she recorded 18 professional victories, including the Women’s US Open in 1997.

A six-time member of the European Solheim Cup team, following her retirement from tournament golf she was invited to captain the team in 2009 and again 2011, leading Europe to victory in the latter matches held at Killeen Castle in Ireland.

Speaking about her new role at Redditch, she said: “I am very passionate and dedicated to growing the game with our younger members and also enhancing players at all levels.”

Redditch Golf Club, which was founded in 1913, boasts an 18-hole parkland/woodland course designed by Frank Pennink. It moved from its original site in 1972.
