Wilson Staff is set to launch the next line of its premium FG Tourball range in the form of a new 4-piece model described as ‘the softest urethane ball on the market’.
In building on the success of its popular low-compression 2-piece (Dx2 Soft) and 3-piece (Dx3 Soft) golf balls, Wilson Staff has designed the new FG Tour model with four layers for low-handicap golfers who demand a softer-feeling, Tour-quality ball.
The four distinct layers that make up the 70 Compression FG Tour model are proven to work together to boost performance. A soft, rubber-rich core provides ultimate feel and low driver spin, while an inner mantle promotes spin performance and an outer mantle maximum distance. The fourth layer, a cast urethane cover, generates Tour-level spin and control around the greens.
“The new FG Tour model completes the perfect line-up of two, three and four-piece balls from Wilson Staff, the brand that continues to lead the way in low compression golf ball technology,” said Frank Simonutti, Wilson Golf’s Manager of golf ball R&D.
“Extensive research conducted by our R&D team proves that more and more serious golfers want to play with a softer Tour-feel ball like the new FG Tour,” added Simonutti. “That’s why we’ve lowered the compression from the previous FG Tour ball and introduced a new multi-layer design that delivers the best overall performance of any of our golf balls to date.”
The FG Tour ball also introduces a new 318 dimple pattern that delivers greater distance and a more stable, penetrating flight trajectory in the toughest of wind conditions.
The ball has already made its mark on the Tour scene. Playing with a prototype of the FG Tour ball – as well as his Wilson Staff FG Tour V2 irons and FG Tour TC wedges – Danish golfer Steen Tinning took victory at both the Berenberg Masters and the English Open to become the first European Senior Tour rookie to win two events in a season since 2010.
The Wilson Staff FG Tour ball will be available to the consumer from February 2014 at a RRP of £34.99.
The 2-piece, 40 Compression Dx2 Soft ball (RRP £17.99 per dozen) was re-constructed last year to provide ultimate soft feel around the greens, higher and consistent ball flights and three yards extra in distance. A large Rubber Rich core allows for decreasing Compression, whilst maintaining a high COR (Coefficient of Restitution) of 0.81. The rubber core has a 96.3% purity level, while a thinner, higher Resilience Cover also helps to produce more ball velocity off the clubface.
The 3-piece DX3 Soft ball (RRP £19.99 per dozen)also offers exceptional feel and low spin off the driver thanks to the rubber-rich inner core; greater velocity and distance performance due to the DuPont HPF inner mantle layer; and high spin and control on approach shots created by a softer cover.
