Sounder, the new golf brand launched last year by the founders of Folk and Urban Golf, has announced an exclusive collaboration with shoemaker Grenson to produce a limited-edition handmade leather golf shoe.
The Sounder x Grenson Golf Shoe, which can be ordered now for delivery in February 2022, will be made in Grenson’s UK factory and are based on Grenson’s 201 G-Fit last and specially crafted for maximum comfort on the course.
The shoe has a generous rounded toe shape, with extra toe spring and pre-drilled screw-in cleats providing comfort and stability as well as a classic look.
The shoe is made from white calf Italian leather, with an off-white suede quarter and Sounder star logo. The inside is fully lined with naturally wicking uncoated beige calf leather.
Cathal McAteer, co-founder and creative director of Sounder, said: “We always wanted to make a golf shoe, and when we started developing a prototype I knew that we wanted to work with a company that shares our values of craftsmanship and sustainability. We’re really proud that these shoes are as comfortable to wear as they are beautiful to look at – we can’t wait for golfers to experience them.”
Sounder co-founder and former PGA professional James Day added: “I’ve tried every single leather-soled shoe on the market – and these are simply the best. After years playing in trainer-style golf shoes, I’m more convinced than ever that the solid feel you get from a classic shoe is key to hitting committed golf shots.”
Tim Little, CEO and Creative Director at Grenson UK, said: “Back in the day, the best golf shoes were always Goodyear welted, leather soled shoes, but these days it’s very hard to find them. So, when Cathal called me and asked if we could make some for Sounder in our factory, I was thrilled. They are still the best shoes for golf and the fact they are made for such a lovely brand makes them really special.”
The Sounder x Grenson Golf Shoes will be shipped with a shoe bag made from offcuts of garment-dyed cotton used in the brand’s clothing collection. The shoes are priced at £495 and will be available in half sizes from size 8 to 13. Pre-orders placed now will be shipped in February 2022.
