Perry Ellis International, Inc. (PEI), the new licensee for Jack Nicklaus Apparel, debuted its first-ever Jack Nicklaus Apparel collection at this week’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla. The event is the world’s largest and most influential golf business event, hosting some 40,000 industry professionals from more than 76 countries.

The new line reflects upon Mr. Nicklaus’ time-honoured style and has been designed to be worn on the most exclusive golf courses and in the world’s top club houses. The luxury collection is created for a discerning consumer. Offering a more refined approach to classic golf, it features a softer aesthetic that is comfortable to wear within championship environments.

Jack and his wife Barbara influenced the line, providing their direction for the forthcoming season’s colour palates and even the functionality and feel of each individual piece. Their close involvement provided the “Golden Bear” touch—while key staff from Jack Nicklaus-designed courses Muirfield Village Golf Club and The Bear’s Club also influenced the collection based on the preferences of their members.

Among his preferences, Jack listed clothes that are versatile and easy to travel with, and in timeless colour choices. All of the fashion assortments are grounded by classic colours such as black, navy and khaki. The Perry Ellis design team has created a Fall 2014 line that integrates Nicklaus’ love for classic, wearable styling with the latest trends in resort and golf apparel to create an array of looks for men and women.

New to both the men’s and women’s collections this year is the introduction of fitness pieces, as the Jack Nicklaus Apparel brand continues to evolve from what has traditionally been a golf-specific line to a lifestyle line, which continues to offer authentic golf pieces. Included in the men’s collection are mercerized pima cotton polos, woven sport shirts, sweaters and outerwear, and luxury sanded shorts and pants. The women’s line features roadmap bottoms, pima cotton knit polos, and prints that range from all over to placed prints. Both men’s and women’s collections feature performance fabrics that are wearable on and off the golf course.
