Throughout the design process of this year’s Autumn/Winter 2019 outerwear range, FootJoy endeavoured to rethink the traditional waterproof jacket. Feedback from tour players and amateur golfers highlighted a demand for a garment that provided full waterproof protection with all the comfort and versatility of a mid-layer. Thus, FJ’s innovative new waterproof pullover, HydroKnit was born.
The HydroKnit pullover (pictured right) is an ideal garment for golfers who want protection from the elements, with the added comfort and versatility benefits of a pullover. It marries the attributes of a conventional woven waterproof jacket with the comfort, stretch and soft feel of a knit garment for ultimate versatility.
Included among its features and benefits are a 15,000m waterproof rating; 15,000g/sqm moisture permeability rating; raglan sleeve construction; three-layer bonded knit fabric; DWR finish applied to bead water away; elastic waistband and adjustable cuffs for perfect fit; inside zip pocket for phone/scorecard; three-year waterproof guarantee.
Leading FJ brand ambassadors on the European Tour were introduced to HydroKnit at the Irish Open, with the product seeing plenty of action during the European Tour’s ‘links swing’ with indifferent weather conditions at Lahinch, Renaissance for the Scottish Open and The Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
Numerous professionals have now stated it’s the only waterproof they will carry as it’s the perfect garment for versatility while still offering warmth and protection from wind and rain.
Paul Dunne said: “It’s comfortable, it’s light and moveable, so for me it’s easy to swing in. I often don’t wear a jacket because they do feel like they restrict movement, but this one feels like there’s no restriction at all, so it’s definitely something I can play in.”
Paul O’Hagan, FJ’s European Marketing Manager, said: “FootJoy is committed to producing innovative and stylish performance golf apparel, which is none more apparent in the creation of HydroKnit. We’ve listened to the feedback from the players on tour and club golfers alike, to create a hybrid product that has the comfort and versatility of a mid-layer whilst being 100 percent waterproof.”
HydroKnit will be available in three colourways; Black with Charcoal, Navy with Kelly Green, and Sapphire with Geranium. RRP: £180. On sale date: Sept 2.
