Next-generation golf cart technology has reached Ryder Cup venue The Celtic Manor Resort, with the news that it is the latest golf club to ‘tag’ its cart fleet with DSG TAG’s GPS tracking devices.
The tags, fitted last month to 20 petrol-driven Club Car carts on The Twenty Ten Course, are designed to help improve pace of play, and to improve the quality of the Twenty Ten experience for customers. Each cart has also been fitted with a DSG TAG ‘TOUCH’ screen along with the GPS tag. It is the first such installation in Wales.
“Golfers on The Twenty Ten Course can now upgrade their cart to a DSG TAG model,” says Golf Operations Manager Matt Barnby. “Buggies are restricted to the cart paths at Celtic Manor, but our new TOUCH screens give golfers an exact yardage while sitting in their cart – removing the need to take two or three clubs onto the fairway.
“This will have clear pace of play benefits on The Twenty Ten Course, and it is a good upsell item for us to be able to offer.
“Along with the no-go zones, security improvements and added management controls which the DSG TAG system gives us, we’ll be looking at this closely through winter 2012/13, with a potential wider roll-out across the Resort next summer.”
DSG TAG has also created geo-zones which control where the Twenty Ten carts can and cannot be driven, including a geo-fence around the entire Celtic Manor Resort estate to ensure that golf buggies are not driven off the property. Golfers are first alerted by a buzzer and on-screen messages, and the cart is automatically immobilised if the warnings are ignored.
The Celtic Manor Resort operates a fleet of 140 Club Cars in total, and DSG TAG’s Vice President of International Sales Colin Surman is confident that the new technology will make a tangible difference at the Ryder Cup venue.
“We’ll be working closely with Celtic Manor over the next six months to optimise all aspects of their DSG TAG TOUCH installation,” he says.
“When bad weather strikes, staff can create instant no-go zones to ensure golf carts cannot enter waterlogged areas, and the TOUCH screens will keep Celtic Manor customers fully up to date with the changing conditions.
“Plus, there are a host of other ways in which the Resort can use the TAG technology to enhance their guest experience. We’re excited to be working with one of the world’s most prestigious golf destinations, and look forward to working with Matt and the team there into 2013 and hopefully well beyond.”
