Cobra unveils King Tour irons

3.00pm 20th October 2020 - New Products - This story was updated on Monday, October 19th, 2020

Cobra Golf has expanded its King range of players’ irons with the launch of the new King Tour irons.

The irons feature a cavity back head which is manufactured using a Metal Injection Molding process to deliver the precise shaping with the soft feel that better players demand. Building off the popularity of its King MIM Wedges, Cobra is applying MIM technology to a full set of irons for the first time.

MIM produces a more precise finished product, with each iron head created using a mixture of stainless steel metal powder, which is then heated and injected into a mold. The metal is heated to a higher temperature than forging irons (1,340°c vs 1,200°c), resulting in a tighter grain structure that delivers the highest level of precision and feel, rivalling that of carbon steel forgings. The final step is hand polishing to deliver the perfect satin finish.

Tom Olsavsky, Vice President of R&D for Cobra Golf, said: “We’ve used our MIM process over the past two years to deliver softer and more precisely-shaped designs in our wedges. Now, in response to demand from better players and our Tour staffers, seeking the same benefits in a full set of irons, our R&D team delivered the King Tour irons. These are softer than any forged offerings on the market, and like their wedge counterparts, offer better consistency in shaping for more precision shot-making on the course. While soft feel and consistency are important in the short game, optimising these attributes throughout an entire iron set will give golfers better performance across a wider range of shot selections.”

The King Tour irons also feature a tungsten weight in the toe to move the centre of gravity behind the hitting zone to provide added stability, while a thermoplastic polyurethane insert is positioned behind the centre of the clubface to dampen vibrations at impact.

Cobra Connect Technology, powered by the Arccos system, utilises smart grips on each iron that sync with the Arccos Caddie app to give users the ability to track their shot data. The purchase of each set of King Tour irons includes a 90-day free trial of the Arccos Caddie app.

The King Tour irons are available in a 4-PW in right-hand only. A 3-iron and gap wedge are available for custom orders. The irons are fitted with KBS $-Taper 120 steel shafts in stiff or regular flexes and a Lamkin Crossline Connect grip. A wide selection of shaft and grip upgrades are also available through custom orders. The stock steel set (4-PW) has an RRP of £999 and will be available at retail from October 30.
