Callaway has launched a new range of tour-validated wedges, Opus and Opus Platinum, which feature all-new Spin Gen Face technology for the ultimate in short game control.
Spin Gen Face Technology provides spin and control by combining three key elements on the face. An all-new tighter pitch puts more grooves on the face, an offset groove-in-groove design creates spin when opening the face, and a new aggressive face blast is developed for spin and bite on partial shots. These three elements work in conjunction to provide crisp, Tour-level spin that promotes short game action and control like never before.
A higher toe peak, radius in the leading edge, and easier hosel transitions further enhance performance, while a complete line-up of sole shapes from narrow to wide, available in popular S grind, forgiving W, versatile C, and Tour-favourite T grind shapes, will help players with different swing patterns to generate maximum spin control for all types of lies.
The Opus wedges are offered with a brushed chrome, black shadow or raw finish (the latter for custom orders only), while stock shaft options include True Temper Dynamic Gold MID 115g (steel) and UST Recoil DART HDC shaft 65g (graphite), paired with the Golf Pride Tour Velvet +2 Grey grips.
To add one more level of technology and performance, Callaway is also introducing Opus Platinum wedges. Made through the process of metal injection molding – MIM – to deliver even more precision through the manufacturing process, these wedges have 17g of tungsten bonded to the back of the topline to raise the centre of gravity to help further improve launch and control spin into greens. The designs also incorporate Spin Gen Face Technology for Tour-level spin along with Tour preferred shaping.
The Opus Platinum wedges are offered in Blue and Chrome finishes with stock DG Mid 115 steel shafts and MCC grey/black grips.
These new wedges are already a popular choice on Tour, highlighted by two major victories to date. Recently crowned PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele and reigning US Women’s Open Champion Yuka Saso both had them in the bag during their victories, while Valero Texas Open winner Akshay Bhatia, Sentry Tournament of Champions winner Chris Kirk, and Dow Championship winner Ruoning Yin are also among the group of players who have already won while using Opus wedges.
Opus (RRP £179 per club) and Opus Platinum Wedges (£229 per club) will be available at retail from September 6. For more information visit eu.callawaygolf.com
