US Open AppThe United States Golf Association (USGA) has launched U.S. Open applications for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. These user-friendly apps are designed to bring the excitement of the 113th U.S. Open Championship to fans around the world. The U.S. Open will be played at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., 13-16 June.

New for this year is a data-rich, scoring-centric iPad app, developed by IBM. Detailed player information along with scorecards, statistics, groupings, starting times and live Marquee Group coverage throughout the championship highlight the tablet experience for iPad users.

The app also features hole insights, which provide fans with an interactive look at statistics and trends for each hole. A personalized live leaderboard option that allows users to track up to five of their favourite competitors is also available.

Powered by IBM cloud computing and analytics technologies, all applications provide users with access to live HD video streaming, real-time scoring, live updates, news and photos. Their user-friendly design will provide fans on the go with up-to-the-minute information and statistics from America’s premier golf championship.

“The iPad app is an exciting addition to our suite of U.S. Open digital products,” said Sarah Hirshland, USGA senior managing director of business affairs. “Providing a superior second screen experience has become an essential part of the USGA’s digital strategy. Through our partnership with IBM, we know we have created easy-to-use applications to entertain, inform and engage fans who are following the U.S. Open.”

“Whether they’re on the go or on the couch, U.S. Open golf fans want to remain connected throughout the championship,” said John Kent, program manager, IBM Sponsorship Marketing. “We’re proud to help the USGA deliver a compelling and interactive U.S. Open experience via a variety of mobile devices and platforms.”

The U.S. Open application for Android and iPhone device users has been updated for 2013. Fans can follow the action with up-to-the-minute scores, news, photos and live video coverage. Through the use of push notification technology, app users can also receive updates for their favourite players sent directly to their mobile device.

Official U.S. Open applications are now available for download from iTunes and the Google Play Store.
