‘Streaming Media’ for Open Championship

Fresh from its success at Wimbledon, NaviSite has been chosen as exclusive streaming media provider for The Open Championship, teaming with TWIinteractive, the interactive media and technology arm of IMG, who is producing and hosting the site as the Internet partner of the R&A

NaviSite, Inc has been selected as the exclusive streaming provider for this year’s Open Championships to deliver streaming audio and video via the official tournament website (www.opengolf.com). Fresh from a successful Wimbledon event, NaviSite is again teaming with TWIinteractive, the interactive media and technology arm of IMG, who is producing and hosting the site as the Internet partner of the R&A.

The streaming of golf’s top players in action will be delivered via NaviSite’s to desktop audiences world-wide. The streamed content will be available exclusively in Windows Media.

“As golf continues to grow in popularity all over the world, we believe delivering this year’s Open Championships to a global audience is more important now than ever,” said Angus Farquhar, Championship Secretary for the R&A. “We are pleased that golf fans worldwide will be able to view coverage and benefit from the joint efforts and dependable, cutting edge technologies of NaviSite and TWIinteractive.”

“Following the success of the Wimbledon tournament,” said John Watson, vice-president of TWIi Hosting, “we knew that the streamOSTM platform can deliver reliable, high-quality streams to a large number of simultaneous users. This frees us from worrying about potential performance-related problems that could lead to disappointed fans and allows us to focus on making the rest of the Open Championships site as compelling and up-to-the-minute as possible.”

Navisite has just concluded daily live streaming for the 2001 Wimbledon Championships, where streamOSTM was used to manage more than 750,000 streams and recorded 16,000 simultaneous viewers for the men’s final.

As part of IMG, the world’s premier sports management agency, TWIi has been pioneering innovations in interactive media since 1996 and has established a world-wide leadership position in digital sports & entertainment. In addition to Wimbledon and now The Open Championship, TWIi is managing integrated media initiatives for over 35 premier brands including the New England Patriots and Manchester United.
