The new season of Ryder Cup Revealed Roadshow events kicks off next month (February) when author Ross Biddiscombe visits Littlestone Golf Club in Kent and will climax with trips to clubs near the 2016 Ryder Cup venue in Minnesota, USA, in September.
The roadshow originally teed off in summer 2014 as part of the launch of the acclaimed book Ryder Cup Revealed: Tales of the Unexpected. The 300-page volume, written by Biddiscombe, is the first to fully explain the social and political significance of the sport’s greatest team event as well as focus on its behind-the-scenes dramas and controversies.
Since then, golf clubs on three continents have enjoyed bespoke versions of the roadshow – a mixture of book signings, Ryder Cup quizzes, after-dinner speeches and in-depth Q&As provided by the author.
“There is no subject in all of golf that generates the levels of passion that the Ryder Cup does,” says Biddiscombe. “The events started off as simple book signings, but have now developed into much more – golfers especially seem to love the quizzes and to have their questions answered about why the Ryder Cup is the way it is today. Every club gets a roadshow to suit its needs and that’s what makes them special.”
Biddiscombe should rack up his 30th event by the end of this year in America at golf clubs near the 2016 match venue, Hazeltine in Minnesota, and believes that the roadshow will become even more popular in the future in all parts of the world.
“Every two years, the interest level in the Ryder Cup peaks and people just love to talk about it. Plus, golf clubs need to have more off-season social events and this is the perfect, good value solution.”
