The premium Nicklaus Black golf ball from the Nicklaus Golf Ball line—designed, tested and perfected with active involvement by the legendary Jack Nicklaus—has been named to the prestigious Golf Digest 2014 Golf Ball “Hot List.”
Appearing in the publication’s May issue, this honour specifically recognizes the Nicklaus Black model for excellent “performance,” “innovation” and “feel.” Launched just seven months ago, the ball is engineered for the single-digit or better players with higher swing speeds. It is available alongside the Nicklaus Blue and Nicklaus White offerings, as part of a simple system where players choose their ball according to the colour of the tee markers from which they hit.
Based on the premise that swing speeds can be estimated by knowing the tees golfers regularly use, each model was designed to positively impact players who swing within specific ranges. The colour-coding makes choosing the correct ball easy, benefiting scores, pace of play and enjoyment of the game.
“To earn ‘Hot List’ recognition from Golf Digest affirms the high-performance characteristics of Nicklaus Golf Balls,” says Nicklaus, winner of more than 120 professional tournaments, including 73 PGA TOUR events and a record 18 majors. “We saw a space in the market for a top-quality product that not only minimizes ball-selection confusion, but helps raise funds and awareness for an important charitable cause. In the end, the ball must perform and this is validation that it does.”
Nicklaus worked closely with experts in materials, technology, engineering, design and manufacturing to develop the made-in-the-USA product.
The Nicklaus Black model and its counterparts are available exclusively at Nicklaus.com and pro shops at the more than 200 Nicklaus Design courses. A percentage of every dozen balls purchased is donated to the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation and St. Jude Children’s ResearchHospital to support paediatric programs and hospitals nationwide. Consumers using Nicklaus.com to purchase balls at essentially a wholesale price also receive free shipping. If the balls are shipped via FedEx delivery services, an additional donation is made to St. Jude.
Online sales save golfers money because distribution costs typically built into product sold through traditional retail channels have been reduced. This allows Nicklaus Golf Balls to be priced attractively at $28 to $32 per dozen and generate greater charity donations. Visitors to Nicklaus.com can also make voluntary contributions; to date, nearly 80 percent of consumers have opted to make a donation.
