Veteran TV golf broadcasters Roger Maltbie and Gary Koch have not had their contracts renewed with NBC Sports and Golf Channel for next season.
Maltbie, 71 and Koch, 70, have been with the channels for 30 and 25 years respectively, and both began their commentating careers after successful careers on the PGA TOUR. Maltbie won five times and Koch earned six wins on America’s top tier tour.
According to Golfweek, which first broke the story, NBC Sports officials said the move was made to “refresh” the team for the future.
“Roger and Gary have been synonymous with NBC Sports’ golf coverage for decades, having educated and entertained multiple generations of viewers and having made some of the most memorable calls in the history of the game,” said Golf Channel executive producer Molly Solomon. “Their professionalism and prowess is only exceeded by their character as they have been great teammates and friends to so many of us here. We will be honoring their careers during our coverage of the PNC Championship in December.”
Details of their replacements at NBC Sports have yet to be announced.
