That most prolific of Irish golf writers, Ivan Morris, has published his fifth book – Ireland’s Best 9-Holes Golf Courses.
Apparently, there are 85 of them dotted around the Emerald Isle – some are truly top class – as are the stories, yarns, history and routing critiques written in Morris’s inimitable style.
The introductory chapters are particularly strong because they present the game of golf as a whole with a simple formula for its survival and growth, i.e. – 2–hours golf.
Those chapters alone are worth the price of admission. Morris also has a novel way of ranking the courses without putting them in a numerical order.
Suffice to say he hints at but doesn’t state baldly that Blessington Lakes GC (opened in 1998) in Co.Wicklow is Ireland best 9-Holes course.
This week Ivan Morris told GBN.com “My 9-Holes book is the perfect antidote to the R&A Survey on Pace of Play – golf needs to be a 2-hour round.”
The book contains some superb colour photographs and is only available on line in hard copy format from the publishers: www.bookhubpublishing.com/shop @€14.95 + p&p.
