One of the world’s legendary golfers and a most successful name in the sport, Gary Player led the Jury for the country’ first golf awards called the TAKE SOLUTIONS INDIA GOLF AWARDS powered by www.golfingindian.com. He spent an hour discussing the role of corporations in golf, in recognizing leadership and promoting Indian talent in the search for the next Tiger Woods.
“It’s important in any industry to recognize leaders, and the India Golf Awards will do just that,” said Gary Player. “The recipients of these awards will have shown that they see the huge potential of golf in India, but their efforts need promotion and a media platform to inspire others. This annual event will help golf gain important momentum to establish itself as a prominent sport in India.”
Gary Player has achieved the kind of worldwide acclaim reserved for only a handful of sporting greats. Renowned as much for his dedication to the principles of excellence as he is for his golfing accomplishments, Player has been impressed with the idea of the awards from the very first time he heard of recognizing excellence and leadership in the game in India.
With a struggle in early life, Gary values opportunity, praise and success. He shared his story with the Jury members that included a former India number one and the head of the Indian Golf Union as part of it. “People like to think we are born equal and that’s not true,” Gary says reflecting his wisdom from life’s lessons. “We have got to incentivize people. We have to ensure they have equal opportunity. This is the thing we have to try and do. We have to make sure they are not discriminate on race or colour.” Gary who is a big reader cites a few quotes from Lee Kuan Yew’s book. “You are telling me you are born with the brain of Einstein, you are born with the talent of Steve Jobs or Tiger Woods? He says many people may be born as morons. This really appealed to me. It’s not about how you are born but about equal opportunities.”
