Premium magazine Golf International will become a quarterly periodical from this autumn onwards.
Golf International Quarterly, will aim to be distinct from all other titles on the market and offer the discerning golfer an in-depth and quality read.
The content will be rich, timeless and truly international in terms of subject matter. The quality of the writing and design will be enhanced by bespoke photography.
Golf International, which is now wholly owned by Sports Publications, the publishers of the UK’s highest-circulating golf magazine National Club Golfer, has established a reputation for outstanding writing and providing a deeper read.
It has only ever had one editor, Richard Simmons, whose brother Pete has acted as the long-time advertising manager.
“We think there is an opportunity to differentiate Golf International from the rest of the golfing media and offer a truly exceptional product on a quarterly basis,” said Dan Murphy, editorial director at Sports Publications, who acquired a majority share in the title in the spring of 2015. “We are confident there is a niche but viable market out there for readers who value a truly luxury golf magazine.
“Unfortunately, we felt the eight-issues-a-year model was neither regular enough for a mainstream title nor did it allow us the time to create a product of which we are truly proud.
“Continuing the legacy that Richard has created will be at the forefront of my mind – Golf International is respected and admired by just about every serious golfer I talk to.
“We congratulate Richard and Pete on creating a magazine that will be fondly remembered and we wish them all the best for the future, along with Jake Ulrich whose support was pivotal to the title’s success in the 1990s and 2000s,” said Murphy.
Operations director Will Shucksmith added: “We’ll be in touch with our existing subscribers over the coming days to explain to them how we plan to honour their subscriptions.”
The first issue of Golf International Quarterly is expected to be unveiled before the end of the year.
