10.02pm 7th August 2008 - Management Topics

As the first European Turfgrass Conference drew to a close in Pisa , newly elected President Dr Marco Volterrani congratulated the organising , scientific and editorial teams on the organisation and success of this first European Turfgrass Conference.

During two days 200 scientists, members of the trade and turfgrass professionals came together to meet, exchange experiences and to listen to nearly 80 presentations and posters concerning the latest trends in turf grass science, developments and environmental issues concerning sustainable development.

Dr Volterrani also thanked the sponsors, golden and silver members for their support with the conference and with the founding of the European Turfgrass Society. This support meant that the original idea, launched at a meeting in Verona in December 2005, of founding a European Society looking at European issues and organising a conference could come to fruition.

During the first Annual General Meeting of the Society , the members elected Dr Volterrani as the president and also a management board of Stephen Alderton, Adriano Altissimo (secretary) , Stephen Baker, Stanislav Hejduk, Klaus Muller- Beck, Alexander Richter, Gerard Van Klooster and Cilluf Svensson.

Dr Volterrani thanked the secretariat and provisional board for their work in founding the Society and also announced that there would be a technical visit and Annual General Meeting in April 2009 with the second Conference taking place in 2010, he looked forward to forward to seeing everybody then.

Full details of membership of the Society and the proceedings of the conference are available at http://www.turfgrasssociety.eu/home/conference_and_proceedings
