Laurence Pithie, Master Greenkeeper with over 40 years’ experience in golf course maintenance, has joined Promote Training as an Associate Author and launched a new eLearning course entitled “An Introduction To Golf Course Management”.
The new course is aimed at club employees or committee members who require greater knowledge of how fine turf is managed and presented on golf courses in order to provide good playing surfaces. It also examines golf course maintenance within the wider context of golf club management and how best to manage the sometimes conflicting relationship between the two.
Taking approximately 15 hours to complete, the course is split into 4 sections:
- Section 1 – Golf Course Management
- Section 2 – Course Environment & Climate
- Section 3 – Turfgrass Fundamentals
- Section 4 – Four Building Blocks for Managing Golf Turf
It provides a rounded introduction to the subject and is ideal for Club Managers, General Managers, Secretaries and Chairman of Greens positions, or those aspiring to such roles.
Commenting on the new course, David Reeves, co-founder of Promote Training, says: “We’re thrilled that Laurence has come on board as an Associate Course Author and delighted with this new eLearning course. In our view, it’s an absolute must-do for any Golf Club Manager or Secretary, or committee member with responsibility for golf course management. It’s something that will greatly aid them in undertaking their roles, which can only be to the benefit of the golf club.”
Following his last position where he served for 17-years overseeing golf course maintenance on a multi-site basis for American Golf and then Crown Golf, Laurence currently heads his own consultancy and training company – Turf Master One. He is registered with the Greenkeepers Training Committee as an approved training provider and is a regular speaker at BTME, Harrogate, as well as internationally at Hertogenbosch, Holland and Kobe, Japan.
He joins Steven Brown in the company’s register of third-party training providers, with more to be announced in the near future. David continues: “We are currently in discussions with a number of other potential Associate Course Authors. We have very specific subject matter we want to cover and we want industry-leading people to help us with that. In quarter one of 2016, I’m confident we’ll have more really exciting announcements in this respect.”
Promote Training, who are the first dedicated eLearning provider to the UK golf industry, are building a library of training products that focus on the practical realities of working in a golf club environment.
Other eLearning courses currently available to study online include “Generating Membership Leads”, “Driving Green Fee Revenues” and “Golf Food & Beverage Management”.
