PlaneSWING® the World’s #1 kinaesthetic golf training aid now used in over 20 countries is asking golfers whether or not another 72 hole event is the right format for the Olympics in Brazil 2016.
PlaneSWING Director Tony Clark commented: “I’ve always seen the Olympics as the pinnacle of a sports person’s career and a showcase for power and precision leading to a climatic finale. Will a 72 hole strokeplay event, as is planned, with the same faces deliver that? I’m not so sure. Would Lee Westwood rather have a Gold Medal than a Major? I don’t think so. Will it light a fire of enthusiasm in the non-golfer? I doubt it. Are we trying to create a 5th intermittent Major? I hope not. We all want to grow the game and to do that we need to be innovative and inclusive, creating excitement and anticipation which is consistent with the Olympic ideal. I believe that we are missing a great opportunity in 2016.
“Why not introduce Longest Drive coupled with target golf? Power and precision together! Long Drive Champions like Joe Miller, Jamie Sadlowski, LisaVlooswyk etc… play to thousands. They enthral and excite and deserve a world stage.
“The Golf Channel, through The BIG BREAK skills challenge has added fun and variety and PowerPlay Golf® devised by British Amateur Legend Peter McEvoy is an exciting risk and reward 9 hole format with a choice of two pin positions that each have a different value.”
