The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) and the United Kingdom Golf Course Owners Association (UKGCOA) have announced their commitment to work together in developing descriptors for positions commonly filled by PGA professionals in the golf industry.
As a result employers will be provided with sample role descriptors occupied by PGA members from which to draw up a contextual relevant job description for professionals they are seeking to engage.
In addition they will also serve to assist PGA professionals in identifying the skills and knowledge required across a number of roles and the opportunity to use targeted professional development opportunities to fill a particular career choice.
With an increasing number of different roles filled by PGA professionals, David Colclough, PGA Head of Member Education, sees the collaboration as an important step for the wider golf industry.
He said: “This collaboration was borne out of discussions with PGA Professional and UKGCOA Board member John Weir, and the potential to work with UKGCOA in providing a set of descriptors that can help employers, golf clubs and PGA professionals in a number of ways was an exciting opportunity.
“We really appreciated their feedback and guidance, which is developing this work to a point where both parties will be comfortable that a very useful resource is available to both associations’ memberships, as well as the wider golfing industry.
“This should lead to golf course owners being further reassured that PGA professionals are fully aware of their likely responsibilities when applying for a new position, and golf professionals can be assured that golf course owners will recognise the value of a PGA trained professional who continues to develop themselves in a targeted way, recognising the needs of the industry in which they work.”
Initially, the partnership will look to validate roles including: PGA Club Professional, PGA Assistant Professional, PGA Director of Golf, PGA Head Professional and PGA Academy Manager.
